Through the generosity of community members and other supporters, West Chester University and the WCU Foundation provide thousands of dollars in scholarships and other resources to students at both the West Chester and Philadelphia Campuses.

To apply for scholarships at West Chester University, you need to have been admitted through the Admissions Office. Newly admitted students who have not yet set up a WCU student account can find information and a link on the sign in page (withing the yellow box) to set up and account. It is not necessary to have paid the admissions deposit in order to set up a WCU user name and password for this purpose.

Adam Swope Memorial Scholarship
Adam Swope graduated from the West Chester University Honors Program In 2002 with a BA in Political Science. While attending WCU, he held various offices in student government, as well as chairing the Young Democrats organization and serving as president of the Sigrna Pi Fraternity. His senior year, he also received the West Chester University Outstanding leader Award. As a political science major, he worked on numerous political campaigns in Chester County, first as a volunteer and then as a paid staffer with Increasing responsibilities.
Most recently he was employed as an administrative analyst for Chester Country, as well as serving as a campaign chairman for Commissioner Kathi Cozzone. Previously, he held senior roles in Joe Hoeffel's 2004 U.S. Senate campaign, and on both Dan Wofford's 2002 and Lois Murphy's 2006 campaigns for the 6th Congressional District. As a person, his dry sense of humor, straightforward and unflappable manner, along with a passion for civic engagement drew co-workers and community members across all political backgrounds lo him. Adam passed away tragically In 2017. This scholarship is in his memory. The student must demonstrate a sustained commitment to public service to the community ( defined as either University/campus service and/or external constituencies such as public agencies, government, non-profits, and elected officials). Ali Naggar Excellence in Managerial Accounting Scholarship
The Ali Naggar Excellence in Managerial Accounting scholarship will support a student, who has obtained at least Junior standing, is majoring in Accounting, and has a minimum overall GPA of 3.0., is a participant working towards membership of Beta Alpha Psi, and has obtained a B+ or greater in Accounting 303. Financial need will not be a factor. This scholarship will be non-renewable. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Zeta Psi Chapter Dr. Philip P. Hoggard Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is to be awarded annually by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Zeta Psi Alumni Scholarship Group in coordination with the WCUAA/WCUF Scholarship Committee. The primary consideration is for the scholarship to be awarded to a full-time undergraduate (preferred) or graduate male student in good standing at West Chester University. The student should be at least a sophomore, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a record of good service to cultural awareness on campus including advancement of multicultural/racial/gender and generational understanding at West Chester University. Primary preference is to award to a participating member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., undergraduate given first consideration and graduate secondary. Aurelio left his home and family in Mexico, seeking a good education and a better life. he attended west Chester State College. he entered the College of Nursing in the 1970s, when men in the field were quite rare and often stigmatized, but he remained steadfast to his vison. Critical to his success, West Chester State College recognized his potential and provided support in the form of scholarship. In fact, it was Dr. Klein who inspired him to pursue geriatric nursing. Black Alumni Chapter Scholarship
The Black Alumni Chapter was founded in 1965. This scholarship was established to assist in the education of students who promote and live the concept of positive community involvement within the African-American community. In 2016, the Black Alumni chapter created a scholarship in memoriam of Tyrone A. Patton, Jr. (Class of 1991), a recently departed alumnus who was a BAC Executive board member for many years. Awarded by the Department of Earth and Space Sciences in consultation with the Planetarium Director, the Chester County Astronomical Society (CCAS) Scholarship will award two (2) scholarships annually of at least $1,000 each, to support undergraduate students with a passion for astronomy, planetary, or space sciences. Qualified candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. The students' area of study may include but is not limited to majoring in Geoscience, Physics, Computer Science and/or minoring in Astronomy. Gontarz Family Scholarship

Students must have a GPA putting them in good standing with their academic department or alternately at least a 2.50 GPA at the time of receipt of the scholarship. The scholarship award is based upon student identified financial need (as defined below), academic potential, and potential or demonstrated ability for creativity, innovation, or leadership. This scholarship is available to students enrolled in undergraduate degrees in the College Arts and Humanities, The Wells Scholl of Music, the College of Science and Math, the College of Education and Social Work, the College of Health Sciences, or other humanities. This scholarship should not be discipline-specific. The student should have been working at least 16 hours per week during the two semesters prior to receiving the scholarship as an indicator of financial need. Alternatively, the student may be financing his or her education with student loans or their equivalent. Application process: To apply the student must complete the Gontarz section of the WCU General Scholarship Application. The essay should list the reason the student has a need for financial aid. The essay should include the student’s current source of financial aid such as family sources, trusts, loans, other scholarships, wages, and tips from employment while attending WCU. The essay should contain a short discussion of how a tuition scholarship will benefit the student, (i.e. Reduction in hours worked, loans, and time available for studies or other campus or community activities). Other topics which might be included in the essay are goals after graduation or how this scholarship would change current goals. Gunter CSD Centennial Endowment
Cheryl D. Gunter, Ph.D. CCC-SLP, Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD), was the CSD Department Chairperson from 2013-2019 before she became the Associate Dean of the College of Health Sciences. This endowment reflects the desire of Dr. Gunter, a first-generation college student herself, to support other first-generation students whose career aspiration is to provide clinical services to individuals with communication disorders and clinical support to the families of these patients. As someone who was involved in extensive on-campus and off-campus activities, Dr. Gunter also wants to support students who appreciate the relationship between the curricular and the extracurricular aspects of an education and the learning that can come from both. P. Travis Schaible Field Geology Prize Award
This award, the P. Travis Schaible Field Geology Award was created to provide students with the opportunity to explore geologic principles or concepts outside of the classroom. It may include but not be limited to geological field camps, geologic field courses, department field trips, specialized research trips, or conference participation.
May be awarded to an individual dedicated to learning field geology as specified below. Preference will be given to a motivated earth science student wishing to participate in a field geology course. In order to apply, students must provide a resume and brief essay describing what makes them a strong candidate for this award. Top candidates may be invited to participate in an interview process, which will help the committee understand the student’s passion for the field of Geology. If the committee does not identify an individual candidate that has met the requirements, then it may elect to award this to the Geology department to subsidize routine field trips. Applicants must be pursuing an Earth Science/Geology degree, cumulative GPA of 2.75 or above; completed 60 credits. Special consideration will be given to those who have the following: experience in the field, acceptance into a geologic field camp, wish to present geologic field research at a regional or national conference. The scholarship committee should consist of the Chair of the Geology Department and others who may have a vested interest in seeing the Geology students succeed. These constituencies share an equal vote. |

Sturzebecker Scholarship program is intended for high achieving undergraduate and graduate students seeking a degree in one of the academic programs within the College of Health Sciences of West Chester University. 2. Prior to the semester of application undergraduate students must have completed at least 45 credit hours at WCU. Prior to the semester of application graduate students must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at WCU, and must have been accepted as degree candidates. Sandra F. Mather Research Fund
Sandra earned a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1964 and her M.Ed. in 1968 (Geography) from West Chester University. Sandra received her Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in Geography in 1982. Sandra joined WCU as a faculty member in 1967 as the second grade teacher in the Laboratory School and taught there until the school closed in l 97 6. In l 98 l, she moved to the Department of Geology and Astronomy. Sandra retired as a full professor in May 1999 and received the professor emeriti designation in December 2000.
Recipient Requirements: This fund is intended to enhance research initiatives and opportunities for the faculty and students in the Department of Geology and Astronomy. The interest from the fund may be used for but need not be limited to: • establish an occasional or regular seminar series; • invite eminent scholars to campus for a period of time to collaborate with faculty on research projects or enhance the training of students; • provide funding for a faculty member to collaborate with a colleague in an off-campus setting on a research project; • purchase equipment needed for a research project; or • pay a student to help with a research project. The department shall establish guidelines for applications and act as a committee of the whole in determining how the funding is to be used each year. |

The Theatre Alumni Diversity Scholarship for Emerging BIPOC Artists provides financial assistance to help bridge the gap between opportunity and talent for BIPOC theatre makers. This scholarship will contribute to establishing a sustainable legacy of equality, diversity, and inclusion in the Department of Theatre and Dance. We envision a thriving theatre arts program rooted in empowering BIPOC theatre artists, and representative of the community it creates for and the world its artists will enter. The scholarship will be awarded to a current, incoming, or transfer student who identifies as Black, Indigenous, Person of Color (BIPOC), Latinx or Asian. The applicant must be a theatre major who exhibits an exceptional desire to pursue a career in theatre arts. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need. In addition to the Theater Department Application, applicants will submit a video or written statement outlining their previous theatre experience, aspirations for the future, and a short personal statement about themselves. Up to three recommendations will be considered but are not required. |

William Pyle Philips Scholarship
Each year the University offers a limited number of William Pyle Philips Scholarships to undergraduate students in an amount equal to full-time tuition. These scholarships are an outgrowth of a bequest made by William Pyle Philips, Esquire in his will to honor the memory of his father, Dr. George Morris Philips, the noted educator who was head of West Chester State Normal School for 39 years from 1881 until his sudden death on March 11, 1920. The University’s Council of Trustees administers the bequest.
Under the terms of the will, an applicant for a William Pyle Philips Scholarship must be a native of Chester County. The Attorney General’s Office of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has ruled that the domicile of the parents at the time of the birth of the child determines the nativity of the child. In addition, to be eligible for consideration for this scholarship, an applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, be a junior or senior in the year for which the award is made, and be a full-time student. The student must also have completed a minimum of 30 credits at West Chester University at time of application. |
